The Flight to Honor Polk is a Polk County Veterans Council program that organizes chartered flights for veterans, primarily from World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War eras, to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C.. This program aims to honor veterans and provide them with a long-overdue welcome and recognition for their service and sacrifice.
Key details about Flight to Honor Polk:
- Purpose: To transport veterans to visit memorials in Washington, D.C., including the World War II Memorial, Vietnam Wall, and Korean War Memorial, and to provide an opportunity for community appreciation.
- Eligibility: Primarily for World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans, with priority given to those with severe medical conditions. Any eligible veteran who served in the US military is welcome to apply.
- Funding: The program is donation-funded and supported by community partners like the GiveWell Community Foundation.
